By-Law Enforcement

The Township of South-West Oxford By-Law Enforcement Services are responsible for the enforcement of municipal by-laws to ensure a safe, quiet and pleasant environment for all residents in the community. The By-Law Enforcement for the Township of South-West Oxford is done on both a proactive and reactive basis.

Municipal Law Enforcement Officers investigate concerns such as noise complaints (e.g. barking dogs, loud music), property standards issues, littering/dumping, fences, yard and lot maintenance, animal control and other matters concerning the Township's by-laws. View a list of common by-law for the Township of South-West Oxford here.

The Township of South-West Oxford is committed to the thorough, prompt and courteous receipt, processing, investigation and resolution of Formal Complaints. The Township will only respond to Formal Complaints received from a complainant who provides their full name, telephone number and address. Anonymous complaints will not be investigated. The municipality will offer assistance and direction with respect to a by-law concern over the telephone, in person, via email or in writing.

Complainants are protected under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and every complainant will be kept completely confidential and not be intentionally divulged to any member of Council, the public or media.

Police Services

The Township of South-West Oxford is serviced by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
For more information, visit the Ontario Provincial Police website.

Citizen Self Reporting

The Ontario Provincial Police are pleased to offer Citizen Self Reporting, an alternative reporting option that allows the public to report specific crimes to police via the internet, anywhere, anytime. The OPP's Citizens Self Reporting System allows members of the public to use a computer or mobile device to report an incident without requiring an officer to attend the scene.

Citizen Self Reporting is simple and convenient and can be used when reporting incidents that do not involve injury or a suspect, or a crime that is not an emergency. The use of this new system is completely optional. Police will still attend a call for service if desired. For further information, visit the OPP's website and follow the steps required to complete this process.

Text with 9-1-1

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is improving its capacity for emergency response and enhancing the safety for an important segment of the communities it serves.
The OPP is equipped to receive emergency calls for service via Text with 911 (T9-1-1) from people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired (DHHSI) and for which the OPP is the Primary Public Safety Answering Point (P-PSAP).
T9-1-1 enables emergency communication with OPP 9-1-1 call takers via text message (or SMS). In order to use T9-1-1, members of the DHHSI community must register their cell phones with their wireless carrier in advance. Some older model phones may not be compatible.

Those who have more than one cell phone will need to register each phone individually. The T9-1-1 service is not intended for use by the general public.

An Information Card is available on the OPP website or by clicking here and via several OPP-serviced jurisdictions.

More information is also available through the Canadian Wireless Telecommunication Association at www.cwta.ca.
