Last week the province announced that the COVID-19 emergency orders were being extended until the end of September. This is good news, because as we start into the fall season, where things begin to return to a more normal balance, we need to be vigilant at curtailing the spread of the virus. Ontario and our local Public Health agencies are concerned about the potential for a second wave which could have further devastating impacts on our health and the health of our economy. We must continue to observe the safe protocols and policies to protect ourselves and our communities.
While many do not like wearing face masks, it is necessary at this time. SWOX Council has not passed a specific face covering By-law yet, to address the issue locally, but the Medical Officer of Health’s Letter of Instruction is clear that in all indoor publicly accessible facilities a face covering is required. I am grateful that the vast majority of people are complying in SWOX. If we find that a problem arises, Council will take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of our residents. In the meantime, please remember to wash your hands often, practice physical distancing, wear a mask in public and if you feel ill stay home and get tested. Testing can be done by calling the Tillsonburg Testing Center (1-855 905-6148, Monday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm) or the Woodstock Testing Center (1-855 905-6148 every day 10 am to 8 pm) for an appointment.
The COVID-19 pandemic is here but so far we have done a good job on controlling the spread. We must stay the course so we all stay safe. Take care of yourselves and those around you.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Mayor, Township of South West Oxford
